    410228 - Unaccounted Airmen - 28-02-1941

    From Henk's List -

    MALTA
    GODWIN, Lewis John Frederick - Sgt - 590507 - RAF.
    SCADENG, Hubert - P/O - 80908 - RAFVR.
    These two airmen rest at the Malta (Capuccini) Naval Cemetery, Malta.
    They were killed in an air raid on Valletta.

    UK
    ASHWORTH, Robert - AC2c - 1116056 - RAFVR.
    Radcliffe Cemetery, Lancashire.
    Admitted dangerously ill to Darlington Memorial Hospital on February 23rd. Later transferred to Darlington Isolation Hospital where he died of Meningitis.

    EVANS, Ronald Alfred - AC2c - 1197659 - RAFVR.
    South Normanton (St.Michael) Churchyard, Derbyshire.
    Died at St.Mary's Church, Torquay. Cause suspected Coal Gas Poisoning.

    NEIL, Alexander Braid - AC1c - 992424 - RAFVR.
    Kilmarnock Cemetery, Ayrshire.
    Died in Hospital due to heart failure, intestinal obstruction and a kink in the small intestine. The result of an earlier operation for appendicitis.

    HANSON, William Frederick Moore - P/O - 1181630 - RAFVR.
    Blenheim I - L1168 - RAF Church Fenton Flight.

    These three airmen rest at Kirkby Wharfe (St.John the Baptist) Churchyard Extension, Yorkshire.

    GREGORY, Peter Monamy - Lac - 921081 - RAFVR.
    RADZYMINSKI, Ignacy - Sierzant - P/780252 - PAF.
    These two airmen rest at Yatesbury (All Saints) Churchyard, Wiltshire.
    They were crew of Proctor I - P6263 - 2 SS.

    SMILLIE, Gordon Charles - P/O - 60100 - RAFVR.
    Golders Green Crematorium, Middlesex.
    Hurricane I - N2356 - 56OTU.

    WEST, Frederick Hornby Sutcliffe - P/O - 66507 - RAFVR.
    Benson (St.Helen) Churchyard Extension, Oxfordshire.
    Wellington Ic - R1285 - 12 OTU.

    ATKINSON, Ernest Chapman - S/Lt(A) - HMS Eagle - RNVR.
    DIBBLE, Thomas - S/Lt(A) - HMS Glebe - RNVR.
    ISAACS, George Graeme - S/Lt(A) - HMS Glebe - RNVR.
    SENDER, John Harry - LtCdr(A) - HMS Eagle - RN.
    These four Naval Airman are commemorated on the Lee-On-Solent Memorial, Hampshire.
    They were lost when the SS. "Baltistan" was sunk by an Italian Submarine off Ireland.

    I think the unit was 55 OTU, based at RAF Usworth, as per: https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ls/r/C16689396
    The aircraft crashed at nearby Silksworth, County Durham.

    Hello Andy, thanks, yes the Air81 has 55 but everything else has 56 ?.
    Also thanks as I just noticed my typo error,"5302" was part of the Air81 for the Wellington of P/O.West . Somehow it got duplicated :(
