    Default Robert BROWN DFC DFM

Looking for information on Robert BROWN, DFC DFM, (173108), RAFVR. His London Gazette entry for DFC, 8/12/1944:5635, lists him as previously being awarded the DFM, I've checked the London Gazette for previous entry's on his service number and found just one on 5/9/1944:4168, which gives his promotion from Pilot Officer to Flying Officer, he is listed without a DFM.

Two DFM entries for Robert BROWN.

    Robert BROWN, (952445), 78Sqn. London Gazette 5/2/1943:651.
    Robert BROWN, (1034079), 100Sqn. London Gazette 12/11/1944:4973.

My thoughts as I've not found a London Gazette entry concerning an amendment to the DFC entry, is choice one, or a London Gazette entry mistake.

PS - there is a table where the officer to OR number is linked up in our DB.. that was missing his entry. I just updated the link - now both the DFC and DFM entry should appear in one page

    https://www.rafcommands.com/database/awards/details.php?qname=BROWN&qnum=173108

    or

    https://www.rafcommands.com/database/awards/details.php?qnum=952445&qname=BROWN

    either would work..!

    Hello

His D.F.M. was reported in the Bradford Observer of Feburary 6th 1943:

The D.F.M. is awarded to Flight-Sergeant Robert Brown, No. 78 Squadron, who was born in 1918 in Bradford, where his home is. He was a student before enlisting in 1940.

The investiture was in November 1944, and there's a photo of him with his sister in the same newspaper of December 1st 1944. His address is given as 2, Tetley Place, Bradford.

His D.F.C. award was reported in the Shipley Times and Express of December 13th 1944:

    Bolton Man gains the D.F.C.
Flying Officer Robert Brown, D.F.M., of Bolton, has now gained the D.F.C. He was educated at the Bradford Grammar School and later at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He enlisted as an air gunner in 1940, and received his commission this year. He has been awarded the honour for an outstanding wireless operator and [his] devotion to duty has always been worthy of the highest praise.

    Hello,

952445 Sgt Robert BROWN RAFVR, was an "Evader".

    http://www.cometeline.org/fiche058.html

    See: BCL3/207 - 8-9 Sep 1942 - No.78 Sqn - Halifax II W7782:EY-C.

    See also: Oliver Clutton-Brock's, RAF Evaders/London/Grub Street,2009/pp.106 & 354*.

    * Be wary of the index entries, R. Brown was quite a common name!
