    Default Pre WW2 Airman Service Records Form 543 Opened and CF mean

    All

    On a number of pre war airman service records there are couple things;

    Firstly a stamped label and written in Red example with a date

    Form 543 opened 27-6-1929

    And also with postings a CF ref with 2 numbers one a date

    Example

    CF 208/31 I am guessing ? #208 of 1931

    What did CF mean ?

    Thanks Paul

    The Form 543 was the 'new' type of service record, and it replaced the 'old' type of service record - the Form 434. This was introduced for ORs from the late 1920s. I am currently looking at one such (although hand written - not stamped) entry on a SR dated 8 Jan 1929.

    The F543s will be held by RAF Disclosures at Cranwell not AHB

    Paul,

    My apologies about not coming back to you regarding 'CF.' The best I can do is point you in this direction:

    From Ross's excellent post, I think 'CF 208/31' now a ghost reference, to a file or document long since destroyed.

    I suspect you are right - But I would like to know what CF means - I thought it was Casualty File - But it is on a lot of files to do with movements ..
