    Peter,

Sounds administrative, rather than disciplinary. I'll take a look later. Can you provide any examples please?

    Cheers

    Jonny,
Below are 3 examples. However, these are all Army, but there was definitely the same phrase used on a page of the LG devoted to RAF personnel during WW2 - trouble is I can't find it again. But having searched the LG I think that a clue may lie in the phraseology of the third example?

    THE LONDON GAZETTE, 19 JANUARY, 1945 477
Lt. W. S. MATTHEWS is removed from the service, 22nd Dec. 1944. (Substituted for the notifn. in the Gazette of 22nd Dec. 1944.

    2824 THE LONDON GAZETTE, 26 JUNE, 1942
24th Apr. 1942. . Maj. J. J. Beausang is removed from the Service, His Majesty having no further use for his services, 3rd June 1942.

188 SUPPLEMENT TO THE LONDON GAZETTE, 9 JANUARY, 1942
War Subs. Capt. H. A. L. DONKIN, M.C. (98784) is removed from the Army on conviction by the Civil Power, 7th Jan. 1942.

Thanks for your help - much appreciated.

My father W.E.P Webb DFM was divorced from my mother when I was 5 and my mother always said (not an unbiased view) that he had been cashiered but London Gazette says he 'lost his seniority' he left the service a few years later. Is there any way I can find the details of his Court Martial assuming he had one. Any help much appreciated as I did not have much contact with him as he emigrated to NZ in the mid fifties.

    Flying Officer W E P WEBB, D F M (55807),
takes rank and precedence (with effect from 21 st
Oct. 1947) as if his appointment as Flight
Lieutenant (war substantive) bore date 3rd June
1947 -- 6 Months Loss of seniority this is almost certainly due to some Court Martial - But probably minor offence as only loss of seniority which other than acquittal is the least penalty you can get
