SWIFT, Ralph, P/O (191847, RAFVR) - No.514 Squadron -Distinguished Flying Cross awarded as per London Gazette dated 16 November 1945. Born 1917 in Woswell, Yorkshire. Educated at Spalding Church School and Moulon Chapel Church School. Enlisted Aprol 1940, commissioned February 1945. Citation in AMB 20218.
Pilot Officer Swift has completed many sorties against some of the most heavily defended targets in Germany. His aircraft on a number of occasions been heavily damaged by anti-aircraft fire and enemy fighters. In January 1945, whilst attacking Cologne his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and the air bomber was wounded. Pilot Officer Swift administered first aid to the wounded airman and gave his pilot every assistance to complete the mission successfully. At all times, Pilot Officer Swift has displayed great courage and devotion to duty.
