RAF Commissioned Armament Officer - Abbreviations

Dear all,

I am researching a commissioned armament officer (later Technical Branch) who was posted to the RAF Special Duties List on 1 Jan 41. His SR states that he was assigned to armament duties at 'DAI.' Does anyone know what the abbreviation DAI stands for please?

Similarly, this officer was posted to Ministry of Supply 25 Air Ministry Unit on 8 Jul 46. His SR states that he was assigned to 'C EDA D' at Fort Halstead for Technical Armament duties. Does anyone know what the abbreviation C EDA D stands for please?

Hi Jonny

He was assigned to the Ministry of Aircraft Production, hence why he was on the Special Duties List.

DAI = Directorate of Aeronautical Inspection
