    Paul

The Scotsman newspaper of December 13th 1937 reported the following:

    FINDOCHTY MEMBER OF THE R.A.F.
But for a delay of twelve hours at Peterborough, when he was returning from a former visit to his home at Findochty, David F. Henderson, and unmarried Air Force man of 26 years, would have escaped being killed in the railway smash. Henderson joined the train at Findochty on Friday forenoon on his way to Felixstowe, after being on sick leave, but, in consequence of his former experience of delay, he decided on this occasion to branch off at Dalmeny, and go by Glasgow, spending the night there with a friend. Thus he became involved in the disaster, with fatal results.
The news was received by Provost Slater, Findochty, and shortly before one o'clock on Saturday morning, accompanied by the Rev. James Thomson, Methodist minister, he broke the sad tidings to the parents, Mr and Mrs George Henderson, Strathlene Road.
David was for some time in the merchant marine, where he passed his examination as a second officer with great credit. About a year ago he joined the R.A.F., and has done well in his examinations. The deceased's eldest brother, Thomas, was a Town Councillor in Findochty before going to Fraserburgh, on receiving a tesaching appointment there. Thomas, accompanied by a friend, went south on Saturday to the scene of the accident to identify his brother.

The Dundee Courier of December 13th lists the casualties, and records Henderson as "Lance Corporal D. F. Henderson, R.A.F., Findochty."
