    Default 15th and 16th November 1918 Deaths

    15th November 1918 Service Number Mystery "435304"

Flight Cadet William Tupper BECK "435304" ex 522122
He KIFA AW F.K.8 D5035, 18 TDS, Ismailia
Flt Cadet Oscar Edward Oberhuber (27) killed (pilot, New Zealander)
Flt Cadet William Tupper Beck (21) killed (passenger, Canadian) - formerly (522122) Canadian Army Medical Corps

I have seen 435304 quoted on CWGC as his service number but that does not match any record I know -
522122 is his ex Canadian Army Medical Corps

    Flt Cadet Oberhuber is 11/353

    1. Flight Cadet William Tupper BECK "435304" ex 522122

Fold3.com has a copy of the accident report included in 47 pages of his record in the WW1 Canadian Soldiers file. One witness reported:

At around 0745, 15.11.18 my attention was drawn to A.W. aeroplane No. 5035 by engine mis-firing badly. Engine sounded as if mixture was weak as it was continually popping back from carburettor.
When about 100 feet up machine began to turn to left with nose up. Engine immediatley cut out; machine stalled and nose-dived to ground.

The proceedings of the Court of Inquriy don't record a Service Number for him, and concluded that the crash occurred due to lack of pressure from the fuel tank and the pilot attempting to return to base at too low a height and speed.

The report states that Flight Cadet W. T. Beck, Canadian A.M.C. died of his injuries before his statement could be taken. His Army Form B.103 records that he died at 09.00 at 26 St. Hospital, Ismalia. He had joined No.3 Cadet Wing on May 25th 1918 for instruction. His regimental number is recorded as 522122 on this form, as indeed it seems to be on all the records in the file.

    2. Rose Jane TURMAINE 7836 - her Army B.103 Casualty Form records her as Rosa Jane Turmaine. No cause of death on the Form.

    EDIT: see - https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/D7521255

Her death was announced in the Thanet Advertiser and Echo of November 30th 1918:

TURMAINE - November 16th, at 27, Margate-road, Ramsgate, Rosa Jane Turmaine.

    Regards

    Simon
