    Default Abbreviation request -> AAP

Please could someone shed some light on the abbreviation AAP.

Found on a relatives World War 2 Service Record for an LAC Eq(or perhaps Eg) /Assistant.

    422 AAP Northolt
    422 AAP North Weald

Any info on 422 AAP unit? would be most appreciated.

    TIA

    Hello

Could it be 422 Air Ammunition Park?

Sounds reasonable, the only other AAPs I could spot in Sturtivant were all WW I related, Aircraft Acceptance Parks & Army Aircraft Park - limited lifes c1917.

Trouble being, 422 Air Ammunition Park is listed, but at Epping, Feb 44. Are Detachments likely for such a facility?

Interesting. TNA check - no result, 422 Air Ammunition Park ...nor generically, "Air Ammunition Park"

    Hello,

Nothing seems to tie either Northolt or North Weald to this unit.

According to TNA, it moved to Slindon Park in February of 1944.

Malcolm's site has it at Groombridge in March 1944.

    Regards,

    Dave

Thankyou Everyone for your info and time to post.

It appears that AAP was likely used for 'Aviation Fuel and Ammunition Park' maybe should have been recorded on the SR as AFAP.

Thanks for the TNA Reference alieneyes, RAF North Weald was located very close to Epping...so assume 422 was providing for that Airbase. Northolt then is the only location not accounted for directly but really not far from each other (maybe an hours drive) - the reference records may not have included all locations of 422 at all times?

My relative was at 422 North Weald (Epping) in Feb 1944
and then with 422 at Northolt a month later.

This link shows a photograph auctioned on ebay

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394849568...=&toolid=10050

It appears to show 422 Aviation Fuel and Ammunition Park 2nd Tactical Air Force based briefly at Northolt from 08/03/1944 to 13/03/1944 and many other locations but not North Weald.

    A fascinating trail.
Dave/aliemeyes ref AIR 29/822/3 as 422 Aviation Fuel and Ammunition Park is a real help, as Sturtivant observes:

    "Formed Jun 44 ex No 422 Air Ammunition Park in No 84 Group at Groombridge;
8 Mar 44 No 7 Section to Northolt"
...if still no ref to North Weald...

No surprise then that 422 AAP was noted on the Service Record.

Also, in 422 AAP wanderings back and forth at Epping, before morphing into 422 AFAP, Sturtivant makes nil ref to any presence at Northolt or North Weald.

But then again, the bods knew who and where they were, when: as Chris/Cozzy's great image find shows.
Enough esprit despite all the change, to make signage with their own known history of movement from standing up (as 422 AAP then as 422 AFAP).
    Well done those men.

FWIW, happy to post or email scans of both Sturtivant entries, 422 AAP and 422 AFAP if wanted.

Fantastic! Thanks for posting this Cozzy!
I would have bid for the photo... missed out by a couple of weeks by the look. Still now have this as a record very helpful! Im taking Epping listed in the photo as being close enough to North Weald. Thankyou.

    Happily, Jilon905.

Here they are. It was only belatedly that my tired old eyes noticed the 422 AAP note already gave the clue to looking for 422 AFAP.

Like the airmen's common lot ("hurry up and wait!"), so the scribblies lot at Central Records: "hurry up and scribble more changes"

Rather than t/scribe, images hosted in my own webspace, for a limited time:
