SCOTT, Hugh, S/L (121373, RAFVR) - No.644 Squadron - Distinguished Flying Cross - awarded as per London Gazette dated 12 June 1945. Born in Glasgow, educated there and Strathallan Boarding School, Perthshire. Airman 1346761, commissioned 7 February 1942. Retired 14 June 1948. A portrait of him was auctioned by WorthPoint who stated “Squadron Leader Hugh Scott DFC appears to have participated in every major air borne assault of World War 2. He was also heavily involved in the dropping of SOE and SAS agents into enemy held territory.” Studied to be a chartered accountant. No citation in Gazette. Recommendation may be at Kew, AIR 2/9092.

SCOTT, Hugh, F/L (121373, RAFVR) - No.296 Squadron - Public Record Office Air 2/9645 has recommendation for a Croix de Guerre, apparently drafted in the summer of 1945. Date and approving authority not known to transcriber (17 July 2002). NOTE: The document gives his Christian name as “High” but this is clearly a misprint.

Flight Lieutenant Scott participated in many operations in support of the liberation of France. On the occasion of the invasion of Europe Flight Lieutenant Scott was detailed for an operational sortie involving the carrying of supporters for the paratroops’ pathfinder force; this important mission was succesfully completed. In addition, Flight Lieutenant Scott has completed 15 SOE sorties in support of the Maquis.
