I last had contact with Min in 2021. I'd have expected to hear from him by now, so I do hope all is well with him.
I've now asked again about 537812 Hacking RN by alternate address and hope to report back in a few days.

Regret to advise only uncertain result.

Thanks to RAF Halton Apprentices Assn, no apprentice record at Halton for
    537812 Hacking RN

It's been suggested perhaps his service no indicates an RAF Cranwell apprentice.
However, Cranwell dealt with Wireless and Electrical tradesapprentices (vs Halton other ground trades, fitters eg).
As the rather loose press record has him as a fitter, this seems less likely.
Further, I have no contact for the RAF Cranwell Apprenctices Assn and it appears, on searching, that their site, formerly www.rafcaa.org.uk, is defunct. (since confirmed: Assn disbanded and site defunct)

After a longish wait, not very helpful at all, my apologies.

Hi, Have been looking through 216Sqdn's ORB for 1940/41.
Sadly most was hand written, but mostly readable.
What drew my attention was firstly in A27/1333/25 on page 6, the second page of an appendix - Under the Health paragraph -
"One Cpl injured in a crash in a No.267 Squadron aircraft. Now back on duty".
Wonder if this is a reference to your G, N, HACKING ???
Secondly from October 1940 and through to June 41, there are references to a crewmember Sgt. SMART. Who was this airman ?
I was disappointed that there was no list (that I could find) of the names/rank/number of the flying or ground crew of the Squadron.

May I say that, re the accident mentioned by Alex above, any connection to 537812 Hacking RN is quite unlikely.

Sergeant Hacking had been wounded on the ground at Habbaniya as a result of enemy fire in May 1941 (Post #1), hence his evac shortly after.

The aircraft crash noted by Alex was recorded in the November 1940 216 Sqn Operations Record Book Appendix, so dated,
with injury to a Corporal of the Sqn, not a Sergeant. See AIR 27/1333/25 at https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/D8394061

As for mostly handwritten, that for 216 Sqn det at Habbaniya for Nov 1940 was all, incl Appendices, typed.

By the by, a Sqn like 216 would have several dozen Corporals across the various ground trades (and perhaps 10 or 12 Sgts).
As a comparison, AIR 29/686 Movement Order No 2/1941 of Dec 1941 for 292 airmen groundcrew posted to a re-forming Blenheim Sqn, NCOs 10 Sgts, 47 Cpls, of all groundtrades.

    Hi Don,
My reference to the handwritten documents were of those from September 1939 up to October 1940. Perhaps I should have made it more clear in my earlier post. Typed pages seem to begin in November 1940. But I am always open to correction.

    Hugh,

My records suggest that your man enlisted between (late) January - February 1937. I'm thinking early Feb.
