    Default SAMUELS S/Ldr - Pilot

    Hi all,

I am looking for info like service number, nationality etc. of S/Ldr SAMUELS, his initial is L or B (according to different sources) and he was attached to 311 Sq in early August 1940 for a short time and serving as pilot instructor and B flight CO.

I tried to search the LG but no luck...

Unfortunately he is not mentioned anywhere in the squadron's ORB.

    TIA

The only person I could come up with from the LG was 29215 Norman Philip Samuels DFC, Squadron Leader (Acting). He held this rank when his DFC was in the LG on the 31st July 1940.

He appears a few times through the 1930s before being placed on the Reserve list and then reappears in January 1940 as a Flight Lieutenant.

The final mention of him is Gazette Issue 40923, 9th November 1956.
Flight Lieutenant, retaining rank of Squadron Leader, N.P. Samuels DFC (29215), 5th Aug 1956.

    Hi Alan,

many thanks for your effort! I was trying LG but no luck, now with the service No. I am able to find him.
I am quite sure it can be my man (despite different initials) as he was S/L by the end of July and also I forgot to mention he has a DFC at the time when with 311 Sq.

Does anybody know when he was shot down and some particular details about his last flight?

    TIA

As a F/O in Oct 1934 Norman Philip Samuels aged 23 he was found guilty at Court Martial of presenting a cheque to clear mess funds which bounced at Manston - Though it looks like it did not end his career
