Default Is anyone familiar with the location of RAF Airfields in and around Aden?

I appreciate that it was some time ago, but is there anyone on the Forum who served in Aden or is otherwise familiar with the location of RAF Airfields in and around Aden, please?

The location of RAF Khormaksar is clear, of course, but I am having more difficulty in pinpointing RAF Sheikh Othman and RAF Robat.

Some sources suggest that Sheikh Othman and Bir Fadhl airfelds were one in the same, but while Bir Fadhl was on the western side of the town (see https://www.agda.ae/en/catalogue/tna/cab/148/31/n/188), photographic evidence from a 1956 AHB publication (re-printed in a book in 1997) about airfield construction (see https://archive.org/details/royalair...p?view=theater) suggests it was on the eastern side of the town, as the coast is visible no too far behind it.

In a similar vein, I have the impression the Robat was on the road heading north through Sheikh Othman, just inside the Province/outside the Protectorate, but the only reference (of sorts) that I can find is a petrol station on that road named Rabat (see https://www.google.com/maps/place/Ra...n-AU&entry=ttu).

Does anyone have a map of RAF Airfields, or some other source that could identify the exact locations of RAF Sheikh Othman and RAF Robat, please?

    Many thanks
    Steve

It should be in ‘RAF Squadrons’ by CG Jeffford

Couldn't find another, better, source on line quickly, Steve, so scan of Jefford RAF Squadrons Map 38 Horn Of Africa incl Aden sent to your Swiss email.

    600 dpi jpeg, highest quality.

The UT Yemeni/Aden maps are either 500,000 or 250,000 scale, your requested details not seen at those scales.

    Thanks Andrew

Many thanks, Don; always quick with helpful replies.

That map has come through 'loud and clear', thanks.

So... Sheikh Othman is sited at Bir Fadhl, west of the north-south road, and Robat just east of that road, further north.

    That's very helpful, thank you.

    Hi Steve

Have a look at this link https://maps.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ams/southwestern_asia/ and the series designated ND38 (there is an index sheet also available).

Whilst the map series is circa the 1950's the footnotes for the maps indicate details being derived from WW2 era maps.

    Kind regards
    Pierre

    Nice, Pierre!

The 250,00 Sheet ADEN ND38-11 does show topo detail & a Landing Ground NW of Bir Fadl! Though nothing at Robat.

Missed that detail on these 250,000 Sheets at UT...a good source of map images at scales various.

Poked around online and found the following page that refers to map ND38-14. This map indicates some airfield locations around Aden, one relatively close to the lat/long that comes up for Bir Fadl on the following:
