The incident involving Stocks was widely reported in the newspapers in Januaury 1933, and AC Stocks is reported as 509742 Aircraftman Charles Stocks, of Halifax, and that the aircraft involved was a Fairey IIIF.
The Scotsman of January 6th reported:
The Air Ministry announced yesterday that No. 509742 Aircraftman Charles Stocks lost his life in descending by parachute from a damaged aircraft, in which he was a passenger, near Amman, Transjordan, on Tuesday.
Flight-Lieut. Richard Llewellyn Roger Atcherley, the pilot, landed the machine safely, and was not injured.
"According to reports received," states the Ministry, "the aircraft in question came into collison with another aircraft, whcih also landed safely and without injury to the occupants."
The article notes that Atcherley was part of the 1929 Schneider Cup winning team.
