    Default 410731 - Unaccounted airmen - 31-7-1941

    What were the places of death registration for (also annotation DOAS/KOAS, etc. very welcome):

    Cpl Kenneth G. GILBEY - 627853;
    Sgt (Pilot) Allan C. MEW - 1109747;
    LAC Thomas F. SPIBEY - 749041 - age 29;
    LAC Wesley C.C. STRATTON - 961022, and
    LAC (Pilot u/t) John K. YOUNG - 1191569.

    Proposed aircraft losses for this day:

    Henley I - L3433 - 1 AACU - crashed on landing Cleave.
    Master I - T8432 - 5 FTS - crashed on take-off Peplow.

    Two of your list were killed in Master T8432 according to the ORB.

    July 31st 1941, “1109747 Sergeant Mew, A.C., flying instructor, and 1191569 LAC Young, J.K., a pupil in N0.61 Course, were both killed when Master T8432 crashed at 0145 whilst night flying from Childs Ercall Relief Landing Ground.”

    Cpl Kenneth G. GILBEY - 627853 - the Liverpool Echo of July 31st 1941 reported the following:

    AIRMEN'S FATAL CRASH
    A collision late last night at the bend of the Warrington road, Newton, near Leigh, resulted in two airmen being so seriously injured that they died at the Leigh Infirmary.
    Coporal Charles Garwood, aged 21, whose home is at 23 Cornworthy Road, Dagenham, Essex, was driving a motor-cycle with Corporal Kenneth George Gilby [sic], aged 20, of 16 Mayeswood Road, Grove Park, London, as his pillion passenger, when they came into collision with a Leigh Corporation bus, both men being hurled to the ground.

    LAC Wesley C.C. STRATTON - 961022 - a family tree on ancesty.co.uk records that he died at a Military Hospital, St. Hugh's College, Oxford.

    A visitor left the following FB message. But this needs to be confirmed:

    My mother in law Olive Moyses at the time lived at 6 peatling road Leicester next door to Thomas Frank Spibys wife Constance Spiby and there son Roger On the night Thomas died both women counted the planes coming back in from there mission as they flew over there houses close to the airfield and all planes were accounted for. Frank's plane crashed on landing at the airbase.his wife who was distraught,went round to my mother in laws to stay while she recovered from the shock. Unfortunately my mother in law and her daughter have both passed away now
