    Default PoW camp Pilot Officer LWC Lewis

    What PoW camp was 173388 Pilot Officer Lyndon.Warwick Clive LEWIS placed in folowing capture after baling out 514 Sqn Lancaster DS822 over France 8th June 1944 ? He may have been a Flight Sergeant and received a back dated commission while PoW.

    Norman,
    12A and L1, he must have evaded for a while as Footprints on the Sands of Time says he was captured 16/08/44 and injured by American bombs on 20/08/44.

    According to LG, he was granted commission as P/O on probation on 03/03/44.

    Hello, members may be interested to know of P/O Lewis's connection to an American Pilot from the 373rd Fighter Group. MACR 8584. Also the Americans IDPF which include details of Lewis's time with the resistance
    prior to being captured, can be found within the following link.

    Is the commissioning date stated (03/03/44) the "effective" date, or date of the issue of Gazette? These dates can be readically different.

    London Gazette Second Supplement, issue date 25 Apr 44
    shows commission date 3 Mar 44 at p1888 for
    1337757 Lyndon Warwick Clive LEWIS (173388).
