    Hi Dennis,

Regarding Hartley and Strudwick, I have checked my records for crashes in that area on that date but I have nothing listed. Northumberland South includes Newcastle and the area was subject to much enemy activity during the 14th and 15th December 1942 so they may have been killed in an air raid.

I am still checking my records for crashes in the days prior to 14th, on the off chance they were injured and died in one of the local hospitals. I will post an update.

    Hello

Charles Gilbert is listed on a family tree on ancestry.co.uk, which includes the following:

SC Charles Gilbert Died 14 December 1942, aged 41 Special Constable Gilbert together with SC [Oliver] Hudson were attending a police lecture at Whitley Bay, when an enemy air raid began; they immediately went out on duty and had reached their posts.

The National Probate Calendar entries for both Gilbert and Hudson record that each was 'believed to have died through war operations on December 14 at Park Avenue, Whitley Bay, and whose dead body was found on 14 December 1942.'

    Regards

    Simon
