    Default 430212 - Unaccounted airmen - 12-2-1943

    What were the places of death registration for:

    A - Died on active service:
    Sgt Sidney GREEN - 1108947;
    Cpl Arthur A. GUEST - 851362 - 916 (Balloon) Sqn (Wythall, Herts.);
    LAC Leslie C. LOWE - 1088883, and
    AC1 John C. WILLIAMS - 1029551 - 9 Sqn (Waddington, Lincs.).

    B - Not found in Flight archives:
    AC2 Stewart P.G. JONES - 744671;
    Sgt Benjamin PARKER - 357219;
    LAC Alfred G. PENHALLURICK - 1316226 - age 28, and
    W/O John J. WALLIS - 910887.

    C - Proposed aircraft losses:
    Spitfire V.A - P7757 - 61 OTU - spun into ground Montford Bridge.
    Oxford I - BG663 - 14 (P)AFU - crashed on approach Wellingore.

    Hi Henk,

    Pilot of P7757 was 'Sgt R Dunne', who was seriously injured. There is no accident card for this and the ORB does not give his service number either, perhaps other forum members can help?

    Wallis died in the Royal Salop Infirmary, in Shrewsbury from some form of illness (not sure what exactly).

    Can't find the others, this is a frustrating one.

    Looking for unit and cause of death of:
    AUS403536 F/O Martin Desmond SHIELS - RAAF - buried in the Alexandria (Hadra) War Mem. Cem., Egypt. Can't find his name in Flight Global.

    From the No.451 Squadron RAAF ORB:

    F.540

    IDKU. 12/Feb/43. No.AUS403536 Pilot Officer M.D.SHIELS was killed in an aircraft accident at IDKU at 1620 hours today, whilst taking off on active operations, and struck off the strength of the R.A.A.F wef. same day. Fatality classed as Flying Battle Casualty. He was buried on the 14/Feb/43 in the New British War Memorial Cemetery, ALEXANDRIA.

    12/Feb/43 Hurr. II. BP541 P/O M.D.SHIELS Interception 1600

    On taking off in strong cross winds P/O M.D.SHIELS, just after becoming airborne, struck buttress of a dispersal bay causing the aircraft to somersault in the air, P/O M.D.SHIELS being killed. The other section and aircraft pancaked shortly after.
