LAC Archibald Shields Pirie 1050883 died in Glasgow and his death is registered in Provan, Glasgow. Dick is correct in saying he is buried in Aberdeen. His father Archibald Shields Pirie is recorded on his son's Statutory Death notice as being alive at the time of his son's death. However, there is a record of a 66 year old Archibald Shields Pirie dying in 1943. There is the possibility that Pirie Snr. died in the same year as his son.

    Hello

LAC James ADAM - 1374242 - the Lincolnshire Echo of February 23rd 1943 reported the following:

STEN GUN ACCIDENT AT LINCS. CAMP
    R.A.F. Guard Killed
While on duty at a camp in Lincolnshire, Leading Aircraftman James Adam (22), of East King Street, Helensburgh, Dumbarton, was accidentally killed by a Sten gun bullet.
Leading Aircraftman Armstrong gave evidence at an inquest yesterday that Adam and himself were standing side by side in a hangar, both carrying a loaded Sten gun. As he bent over to look inside a small aeroplane the gun slipped off his shoulder on to the floor and went off. He turned and saw Adam on the floor.
It was stated that if a loaded Sten gun were banged sharply on the floor it might cause the gun to fire. A verdict of "Accidental death" was recorded.

    Regards

    Simon
