John Anthony Hughes-Rees 113942 , was admitted to Number 6 General hospital with a 2 day history of headaches , general malaise and slight weakness in the legs . On the day after admission he woke to find he could not move his limbs except for a faint movement of his fingers . His diaphragm rapidly ceased to function and he was placed in a respirator , being comfortable for 36 hours but died suddenly whilst talking of acute anterior poliomyelitis
