Default 330 Sqn Catalina III losses

    Hello,

I am looking for some details on two 330 (N) SQn Catalina III losses :

FP525 (Z) on 21/22.09.42. Reported on Form 540 on 330 Sqn ORB as shot down by U-Boat, but this flight is absent from Form 541. Crew saved. Any idea on the crew, at least the captain?

FP535 (X) on 05.11.42. From A-B register, reported missing on search that date. I guess that it took off to search a N3-PB lost the previous day, but once again, no trace in the ORB (Form 540 or 541). I have no idea if the crew survived or not.

Thanks in advance for any information provided

    Phil

    Ross,
For FP525 also have Kvm Oluf HILMAR. First names HANSEN: Erling Quistgaard. First names BJERKSETH: Arne Lie. Crew rescued by HMS Marne.
Looking for ranks of JOHANSEN, HANSEN, GUSFRE and SØRENSEN. Perhaps Stein may be of any help.
    Regards,
    Henk.

Erling Quistgaard Hansen was Danish. I have not yet completed the profile, among other things it lact more information on the ops he participated in, but it may be of relevance, cf.

Default Question about RAF serials FP-525 to FP-536 and general RAF serial question

Would anyone have any idea of the former USN bureau number of FP-525 through FP-536? I ran into an entry that within a series of bureau numbers there were 12 to RAF as Catalina III FP525/536. As http://www.ukserials.com/ does not have any information on individual aircraft in the FP range, I am stuck.

I would also welcome any information on how/when the RAF numbers were assigned and where information on assignment of a block of numbers might be found. I have a list of Hadrian numbers I have not matched US serials to and a list of US serials without RAF serials. A large number of them are "to RAF from USAAF India stocks serial unknown" so if I could figure out which RAF serials were assigned in India, that would help.

Yes, that is the one I am working from. He has done a wonderful job on his databases, but there are gaps. The RAF sure kept better records than the USAAF!

    Hi:

Air-Britain's 'The BAC and Lend-Lease' lists the twelve PBY-5s FP525 to FP536 as, in sequence:

    USN 04985-04990, 05004-05007, 05010 and 05012.

Can check your Hadrian list if you like.

Is Air-Britain's 'The BAC and Lend-Lease' "The British Air Commission and Lend-lease Hardcover – December 31, 2001 by Ken Meekcoms (Author)"

If so, I might put it on my books wanted list after the three volume "Allied Air Transport Operations South West Pacific Area in WWII", an Australian book dealing with RAAF and 5th AF troop carrier aircraft.

I am putting the Hadrian list together in numerical list, but it looks too long to ask you to do it.

Yes, that's the book. I can scan the Hadrian page(s) for you.

If American/British serial tie-ups is your thing, this book is a must-have.
