No.263 Sqn. ORB. F.540 - Warmwell.

May, 1943

May 7th.

Strong West wind, Cloudy. Sgt Thould coming in to land, held off at 30 feet and wrote off a Whirlwind near the Watch Office. This was the first accident to be ascribed to carelessness, for ten months. Sgt Thould was detached forthwith to the Air Crew Refresher Course at Brighton.

Sgt Thould, was in fact; 1246400/175972 P/O (Pilot) John THOULD RAFVR. He was killed in action on 13-10-1944, in No.263 Sqn. Typhoon Ib MN476. Shot down by flak, south-east of Hoogstraten.

Thanks Col for info on Whirlwind P7057. THOULD's Typhoon was in my files; as a crash location I've Merksplas (where he lies buried) SE of Hoogstraten, Belgium, 12.15 hrs.

LAC Joseph H. BOUCHER - 1267851 - the Lincolnshire Echo of May 11th 1943 carried the following announcement:

BOUCHER - on 7th May, at Gillingham Hospital, Dorset, Leading Aircraftman Joseph Henry Boucher, the dearly-loved son of Florence and the late Jim Boucher, late of Lincoln, who passed away (suddenly).

William John Ripp 355162 | attached to Number 5 PDC | as permanent staff, was found dead at 08:00 Hours in his bedroom at his billet at 24 Alexandra Road, South Shore, Blackpool, from a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head from his service revolver

Richard Henry Rushworth 1542252 | attached to Number 3074 SE | died at 15:00 Hours in the Borough General hospital Ipswich of an appendicular abscess

Percy Leone Mount 1269980 | was admitted dangerously ill to the Springfield Military hospital, Durban on 7 October 1942 He was repatriated to the U.K. and admitted to the Borough General hospital, Ipswich on 13 March, dying of carcinoma of the rectum
